Every once in awhile, one of our favourite treats is a homemade waffle with some bar one chocolate and fresh cream! So when our director, Venetia Reddy visited a South African resort over the weekend and found this special sweet treat on the menu, we couldn’t help but think of how we can re-create it for those weekend cheat meals.
So how do you make a waffle from scratch — well, one thing is for sure (You need a waffle iron!)
Let’s get started, this is your go-to homemade waffle recipe 🙂 Save the link and refer back whenever you need it for a sweet dose of comfort.
Waffle Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Bar One Chocolate Sauce Ingredients:
- 2 Bar One chocolate bars, chopped into small pieces
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Topping Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
For the Waffles:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, and then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions and lightly grease it with cooking spray or butter.
- Pour the waffle batter onto the preheated waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
For the Bar One Chocolate Sauce:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the chopped Bar One chocolate bars and 1/2 cup of heavy cream in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and the sauce is smooth. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate using a double boiler.
For the Topping:
- In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until it forms stiff peaks.
Assemble Your Waffles:
- Once the waffles are done, place them on a plate. Drizzle the melted Bar One chocolate sauce over the waffles.
- Top the waffles with a generous dollop of fresh whipped cream.
- You can garnish with extra chocolate shavings or any other toppings of your choice, such as berries or chopped nuts.
Serve and Enjoy:
Serve your homemade waffles with Bar One chocolate sauce and fresh cream immediately while they are warm. These waffles are a delightful treat that combines the sweetness of bar one chocolate with the richness of fresh cream. Enjoy!
